  Jun Jun Taborlupa has become a force with the Hamiota Huskies' volleyball team since moving moved to the community from the Philippines six years ago.


  This season, Taborlupa and his teammates are ranked #1 in the A Boys' division as they try to repeat as Provincial champions.

  The Westman High School Hockey League will be a 14-team circuit for the 2014-2015 season, but there are some changes.


  The Hamiota Huskies and Rivers/Elton Rage are out, while the Birtle Falcons are back for the 2014-2015 season.

  The locally led Manitoba Bisons start their Canada West men's hockey season on the road this weekend against the Calgary Dinos.

  The Neepawa Natives are off to a 2-and-0 start to their Manitoba Junior Hockey League season, thanks in large part to goaltender Alex Henry.


  Henry stopped 61 of 64 shots against his former team on the weekend, leading the Natives to back-to-back wins over the OCN Blizzard.

  Rylie Dickson and her Killarney Raiders are reaching for the top.

  Dickson and the Raiders finished runner-up at the provincial AA high school volleyball championship a year-ago and are ready to better that result in 2014.

  The 4th Annual Virden Sportsman's Dinner on September 27 will feature Olympic gold medalist and Amazing Race Canada host Jon Montgomery and former Toronto Blue Jays Jesse Barfield.


  All proceeds from the event go to Virden Minor Ball (new diamond construction), Virden Minor Hockey (general fundraiser) and Virden Curling Club (phase 2 construction fund).
