  Jason Schenn of the Rural Manitoba High School Football League's Moosomin Generals is in the running for a prestigious award.

 

  He's among 10 finalists for the 2014 NFL Youth Coach of the Year award.

 

  The NFL will donate $5,000 of new football equipment to the winning coach's program, while two runners-up get $2,000 in equipment.

 

  The winning coach will be unveiled on December 2nd.

  Heschuk has qualified for the CIS Cross Country championship in his freshman season with the Manitoba Bisons with the nationals set for Saturday in St. John's, Newfoundland.

  
  Heschuk joined the U-of-M Bisons after a solid high school career, which included competing in the prestigious Nike Grand Prix in Toronto in 2013.

  The Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference season has arrived for the Assiniboine Community College Cougars men's volleyball team.


  The Cougars are starting from scratch after going 0-18 in the conference last season with former Brandon Bobcats' star Joel Small at helm for his first year as coach.


  ACC is on the road against the Red River Rebels this coming weekend to start the campaign, with the first matches on home floor scheduled for November 15th.

  Host Neelin, Elton, Virden, Goose Lake, Crocus, Vincent Massey, Major Pratt, Killarney, Gilbert Plains, MacGregor, Grandview, Nellie McClung, Baldur, Rossburn, Shoal Lake, Rivers, Wawanesa and Souris are the Westman teams taking part.

  
  The event starts Friday and comes to a close Saturday with the finals at 7:15 p.m.

  
  The varsity girls' game goes at Crocus and the boys' championship match is at Neelin.

  The Spartans finished in seventh-place in the Andy Currie 'A' Division with a record of 3-4 and will take on the second-place Lorette Scorpions in Thursday's quarter-final, who they never met during the regular season.

 

  Neelin snapped a four-game slide by winning their regular season finale in Winnipeg last Friday 15-14 over the Tec Voc Hornets.

  The Parkwest Outlaws are visiting the Swan Valley Tigers in one semifinal, while the other semi has the Neepawa Tigers are on the road against the Moosomin Generals.


  Parkwest posted a 5-3 record to finish in second-place in the South Division and lost their lone meeting against Swan Valley 42-7.


  Both semifinal games start at 1 p.m. on Saturday with the winners advancing to play for the Doug Steeves Cup on November 1st.


  In the consolation semifinals on Saturday, the Dauphin Clippers enterain the Virden Golden Bears and the Southwest Sabres welcome the East Parkland Warriors with those teams vying for the Murray Black Cup.
