Hawryluk, Sanheim Earn Jr. Team Invite

Brandon Wheat Kings' forward Jayce Hawryluk and Elkhorn product Travis Sanheim are among the 41 players invited to Canada's National Junior Team Summer Development Camp.

Hawryluk had 24 goals and 64 points in 59 games with Brandon last season while Sanheim notched five goals and 29 points in 67 games with the Calgary Hitmen.

Both players helped Canada to a bronze medal at the World Under-18 Hockey Championship this past spring.

"It's a huge honour for them to think highly of me to get invited to that camp," said Hawryluk, "There's a lot of great, elite players that are going to that camp, as you can see on the roster.  I'm honoured, I'm going to go there and work hard and try and make that team."

"I would like to congratulate the players selected today to attend the development camp," said Ryan Jankowski, head scout of the men's Program of Excellence for Hockey Canada, in a release, "This is a first step towards being chosen to represent Canada at the world juniors, but these 41 players have the first opportunity to show the coaching staff how they can help Canada succeed in Toronto and Montreal at Christmas-time."

Hawryluk and Sanheim are two 16 Western Hockey League players invited to the camp, a list that also includes Winnipeg Jets' draft picks Eric Comrie, Josh Morrissey and Nic Petan.

The national junior team development camp attendees will gather at the Montreal Canadiens' practice facility on August 3rd.

They'll then play the national junior teams of the Czech Republic and Russia in exhibition games on four consecutive days from August 4-7.

"I feel like I'm a game player.  I enjoy games a lot more than practices, I think everyone really does," added Hawryluk, "You'll be able to play exhibition games against other countries and see where your team is measuring up with them all the time.  It's fun, the intensity will be high, and I'm ready for it."
